Before I jump into my journey, grab a drink and sit comfortably as my story will blow your mind away. (Disclaimer: I meant that in a positive note) Also, to clarify from the title I didn’t actually get lost in the hotel, it was more of the fact that I was completely in awe of the open spaced and brightly lit entrance of the Fairmont hotel.
I rolled my medium sized luggage out the airport with my backpack strapped securely on my back. My mind was racing a million times per second while my heart was beating quicker than the wheels of a speeding train. I have finally stepped foot into the city of Barcelona and I couldn’t be any more happier. Quickly, I inhaled a huge breathe of fresh air and walked towards the pathway of lined up yellow taxis. June 3, 2016 marked my first solo plane flight and it was a memory I will never forget. Although I wasn’t travelling entirely alone since I met my parents the following day, I was able to enjoy a mini trip on the airplane and half a day in Barcelona with me, myself and I. The taxi driver greeted me to Barcelona, but on the road he didn’t speak a word. I will admit I don’t remember much of the ride since I was beat from my jet lag and my excitement resulted in only a small nap on the plane. I honestly was ready to pass out once I arrived to my room. But, I knew that wouldn’t be a smart decision since the sun has just rose. It was around 8am when I arrived to the grand and beautiful Fairmont.
I was greeted by a hotel bellman as I stepped into the hotel. He was wearing a spiffy black vest over a white button up with collar peeking out. Wearing black pants and clean shiny black shoes, his attire and fancy hat was like a mix of Johnny Depp from Alice in Wonderful and the character from The Hobbit. I scuffled a quick giggle under my throat and followed his lead to the front desk. The hotel corridor was connected with side windows leading to mini stores. The theme of the hotel was very industrial with hints of white, grey, metallic gold and silver. Everything looked clean and sleek and the marbled coffee tables that were placed accordingly with their golden leather chairs was a perfect match for the lobby. Near the front of the circular entry door was a large pentagon shaped fountain encased with beautiful white marble. There were different layers on the fountain- the top part displayed black marble and it contrasted with the white marble surrounding the fountain. I have never seen such a beautifully aesthetic fountain in my life. There were also intricate patterns on each square tile of the floor in a light tan colour.
Since my mother was a Fairmont VIP member I was informed that I was booked into a suite on level three. I was more than delighted to be hearing the word suite plus he also mentioned the view was quite spectacular. The process of receiving my hotel cards was simple and quick. Good job Fairmont Carlos, I definitely will be booking your hotel again in the near future! The layout of the hotel was quite symmetrical as it can be divided in half. From the entrance of the hotel you see two tall elevators on the far opposite side of your view. In between are the coffee tables, couches, bar tables and decorations that bring out the mood of the hotel. In daylight, the sun would beam into the hotel making the interior space brightly lit. At night the strings of light dangled on a rectangular roof-like decoration creating a romantic and starry night mood. The aesthetics and lights brought out a relaxing atmosphere and it felt like I was on cloud nine.
